Kids' cuts in Shawnee

Haircuts at a child's pace

Twirl is a kids' haircut studio on Johnson Drive. Three stylists, a booster seat and the time a first cut takes, for children from a first trim to the early teens. We're welcoming new families.

A first cut

A first cut, step by step

Nothing happens until your child is ready. This is the order we follow, and we go at your child's pace.

  1. A parent and a small child walking hand in hand through the studio door, both seen from behind
    5 min01

    Come in

Walk in, sit on the bench and look around. Your child can wander the room before anyone picks up a comb.

  2. A small stylist's chair with a plain booster seat and a folded cape at a low station in a bright room, empty
    Booster or lap02

    Pick a seat

A booster in the chair, or your lap. Whatever keeps your child calm is the seat.

  3. A small hand touching the body of a switched-off clipper held in a stylist's hand
    Switched off first03

    Meet the tools

Hold the clipper while it is off. Feel it hum on a hand before it comes near a head of hair.

  4. A comb and scissors at the back of a child's light-brown hair, the child in a blue cape seen from behind
    20–30 min04

    The cut

A few snips at a time, with breaks for a drink or a hug. We stop when your child asks us to.

For parents

Can I stay? Yes

A parent stays for every visit. Our page for parents covers how to prepare your child, what happens in the chair and what to do if the day doesn't go to plan.

    Armani Baisden

    Stylist, textured hair and braids

    Maia Algarin

Stylist, first cuts and fine hair

Questions

What parents ask first

What if my child is scared?

Many are. We start with the tools in their hands, the switched-off clipper, a look in the mirror, and we stop whenever they ask. A first cut is allowed to take two visits.

Can I stay with my child?

Yes. One grown-up stays for the whole visit, in the chair with a small child or on the bench beside an older one.

How should I prepare my child?

Tell them what will happen in a few words: a chair, a cape, a comb and some snips. Dress them in a top that is easy to cover, and bring a favorite toy or book. The parents page has more.

How long does a first cut take?

About 20 to 30 minutes in the chair, plus a few minutes to look around. We never rush it.

What ages do you cut?

From a baby's first trim to the early teens. Teens usually find the Cuts and Styles for school menus the right fit.

Do you cut coily and curly hair?

Yes. Armani works with coily, kinky and curly hair every day, and every stylist here is happy to do a cut for coily hair, a twist or a braid style.

Can my children come in together?

Yes. A sibling visit books two or more children back to back with the same stylist.

How much will it cost?

It depends on the service and the stylist, and the booking page shows it before you choose. How pricing works explains what sets it.
